Diavolo. 8 pm. This innovative dance company was acclaimed by the Los Angeles Times for its "unstinting energy and the ability to dance on any surface, whether horizontal, vertical, titled, or tubular," Diavolo is composed of dancers, gymnasts, and actors who collaborate with artistic director and founder Jacques Helm to create pieces that offer an almost cinematic experience. Utilizing oversized structures or surrealistic sets of commonplace items, performers leap, fly, and twirl to convey powerful narratives that are clever metaphors for the absurdities of life. In Trajectoire, the ensemble takes a visceral and emotional journey on a great abstract galleon; and in Tete au Carre, a huge cube structure is used to explore the concept of teamwork. "Playfulness with props and physicality that elicits cheers from the audience," writes The New York Times. G Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3 at 8 p.m. Cost: $44, $36, $22. Family Friendly: Children 12 and under half price. Center for the Arts, George Mason University, Fairfax. 703.993.8888 www.gmu.edu.
